Ria de Alvor
Our flagship farm in one of the Algarve's most pristine estuaries, a protected Natura 2000 bird and wildlife sanctuary.

Generations of Portuguese pond farming knowledge, backed by modern R&D, across two estuary farms in the western Algarve.
NaturaFish was founded on the belief that aquaculture should look more like nature and less like industry. While most of the world moved seabass and seabream into high-density offshore cages, we continued perfecting traditional estuary farming, in the same habitat where these species live and thrive.
Today, under the leadership of CEO Miguel Theriaga, we run two farms in the Ria de Alvor and Rio Arade, supplying premium fish to chefs and distributors across three regions.

Our 40 hectares of ponds sit on two adjacent estuaries in the western Algarve. Both of these protected estuarine ecosystems are known for clean water and rich biodiversity.
Lower densities, natural tidal feeding, and slower growth produce a healthier animal and a finer product. We see our role as stewards of the estuaries we farm in — protecting water quality, biodiversity, and the long-term health of the ecosystem.
Estuaries and inlets are where European seabass and gilthead seabream actually live in the wild.
We give our fish room to swim, socialize, and grow at their own pace.
Twice-daily tidal exchange brings natural feed into our ponds, supplemented only with cereals and fish oils.
We reinvest a substantial portion of our profits in research and development to keep refining extensive aquaculture for the next generation.

Our team brings together generations of Portuguese pond farming knowledge and modern aquaculture science.
CEO Miguel Theriaga leads a group whose combined experience spans decades in extensive aquaculture — people who understand both the tradition and the future of this craft.
We're working toward ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certification by 2027. But more importantly, our farming methods already reflect ASC standards. Sustainability isn't an add-on for us; it's the entire model.
